What is Tuxia?
Tuxia is an image steganography tool that hides any file (images, videos, documents, archives…) inside an ordinary picture. When sharing, you just send the picture — to everyone else it's a perfectly normal cover image; only someone who opens it in Tuxia and enters the password (if any) can pull out the hidden files.
In one line: it looks like an image, it works like an encrypted folder.
How it works
PNG image data officially ends at the IEND marker (GIF: 0x3B). Viewers stop reading there and ignore any bytes after it. Tuxia appends your file data (optionally AES-256-GCM encrypted) into that "no man's land", plus a small metadata block (file names, sizes, salt, etc.).
This also explains the single most important rule: once an image is compressed or transcoded, the trailing data is wiped — so you must share the original. Curious for more? See Steganography 101.
Use cases
- Sharing files on forums and communities that accept original images but make attachments awkward;
- Sharing sensitive files in a work group chat — add a password and even a leaked screenshot stays safe;
- Hiding important documents inside a landscape photo as an "invisible" backup on your cloud drive;
- Watermarking images before distributing them, marking source and intended use.
Four steps
Pick a cover
Upload an image, or hit "Random cover".
Add files
Drag in the files to hide — multiple allowed.
Set options
Password, watermark text — as needed.
Generate & share
Download the image and send it as a file / original.
Notes
Sending images directly in WeChat/QQ compresses them and destroys the hidden data. Always send as a "file", or zip it / share via cloud drive. On forums, use the original-image link.
- Keep it under ~50MB per session — bigger files mean bigger images and slower processing;
- If you set a password, remember it — lose it and the files are truly unrecoverable (we don't have it either);
- The recipient needs no account — just open Tuxia and upload the image to extract.
